The Perli Vineyard is 10 miles from the ocean perched at 2,200 feet on a steep north east facing slope consisting of shale, fractured sandstone and rhyolite. This distinctive cool climate Syrah is co-fermented with 5% Viognier in the tradition of wines from the Northern Rhone. We source from a block that is planted to a McDowell selection. The McDowell selection is notable as the oldest field selection of Syrah in North America, brought into California to the San Jose Mission in 1880 and later planted on the McDowell Ranch in Mendocino County in 1902. So so good. On the nose, dark red and purple fruits, cured meat, subtle pink peppercorns, purple violets, green olives and iron mineral notes. On the palate, wild raspberry, juniper berries, prosciutto, green olives and ground peppercorns. This lean and seductive 2019 vintage hits all our marks for a great Syrah. This is our favorite vintage of Perli Vineyard , full stop. It has that perfect balance of elegance, layers of complexity and a mouth watering long finish.
A perfect fall wine to pair with a tender Rack of Lamb or a savory Lamb Tagine.
