At three miles from the ocean at 1200ft elevation, our coast ridge estate Faîte De Mer Farm is the most westerly vineyard in Mendocino County. This dynamic coastal site produces elegant, structured and taut wines that are savory in expression with richness that is both elegant and powerful. We experienced very cold conditions during flowering in 2022 which decreased yields substantially, a risk we face growing Pinot Noir this close to the ocean which means these estate wines will be tightly allocated. Winemaker Jason Drew selected the top barrels from three blocks within the Ornbaun soil series, a denser sandstone based soil with a bit more clay and iron as well as shale.   The expression is darker red fruits and  distinctive coastal forest umami character. We get Asian plums and wild huckleberry, along with black tea, stoney mineral notes and savory fir tips along with aromas of petrichor and black truffles.  This estate bottling is classic in structure with proper acidity straddling both elegance, power and distinctiveness with incredible transparency. A classic vin de garde. This bottling gets better with each passing vintage and we are thrilled with this wine.
