2023 Estate Radiolaria Chardonnay
The Drew Estate Vineyard is located a mere three miles from the ocean , at 1200 ft elevation on the northwestern flank of the Greenwood Ridge. This site is exposed to consistent winds and fog from the Pacific Ocean a short distance to our west. The 2023 vintage was colder overall, pushing harvest well into October and picked just before the first fall rains hit. Our Chardonnay is planted on three soil different soil series of oceanic origins, planted to Dijon 548, 76 and a Wente selection. Our sandstone based soils contain deep sea bed rock called Radiolarian Chert, formed from deep sea plankton that dropped onto the seafloor millions of years ago. This coastal site produces a mouthwatering, mineral driven and taut Chardonnay that is lively, persistent and impeccably balanced. Flint, oyster shell and quince on the nose with lemon curd, asian pear, citrus rind and saline notes on the palate for a long and lively finish. Pair with Seared Scallops or a Seafood Bisque.
