2017 Estate Field Selections Pinot Noir

A limited library release from our estate.  This is our fourth release from our coastal site  on the far western  edge of the Mendocino Ridge . At 1250 ft and 3.3 miles from the ocean, this vineyard is the coolest in our single vineyard portfolio. The purity, structure and natural aligned acidity we get from this site is unmatched.  Ancient oceanic soils, providing excellent drainage coupled with the maritime climate makes for a compelling expression of our coastal forest surroundings. We planted several heritage field selections of Pinot Noir to this site along with four Dijon clones. Very much naturally low yielding site producing small tight clusters with slightly thicker skins, due to the coastal climate. Exotic plums, black cherries, sage, fir tips and black truffle notes are evident on the palate and on the nose. We love the depth of this sexy wine and the continual unfolding of layers. Be patient with this wine, cellar time will be essential to uncover the full potential here. Pair with Cassoulet or Herbed Roasted Chicken and Smashed Red Potatoes.
