2023 Valenti Ranch Syrah
Six miles from the ocean on a mid elevation windswept east facing slope at 1,300 -1400 feet, the Valenti Ranch produces a very distinctive cool climate Syrah. The constant maritime winds coupled with thin marginal soils of oceanic sedimentary origins, lends itself to a leaner style of Syrah of incredible purity and transparency. Made in the tradition of the Northern Rhone, we co-ferment a small percentage of Viognier for some aromatic lift. The nose immediately reminds of a classic cool climate Syrah with distinctive cracked pepper notes, blue and black fruits, game, white pepper, black olives and purple violets. While this wine is showing beautifully right now, be sure to keep a few bottles in your cellar for the long haul as your patience will be rewarded. This very aromatic, intensely flavored Syrah will pair beautifully with a Lamb Tagine or a Wild Mushroom Shephards Pie.
