About 14 years ago we got a hold of some cuttings of Albariño that originated from Rias Baixas and arrived here via a suitcase of an unnamed winemaker. These cuttings were fortunately shared with us and we decided to graft over some Zinfandel on the Valenti Ranch on the coastal Mendocino Ridge AVA. The Valenti Ranch is six miles from the Pacific Ocean , which provided a ideal climate for this varietal. The maritime climate coupled with the ancient oceanic soils were a compelling combination for this Spanish varietal. A clean and bright mineral driven Albariño with notes of citrus blossom, honey and wet stones, following with citrus, minerals and stone fruits unfolding on the palate. A perfect wine to enjoy with king salmon on the grill or fresh oysters on the halfshell. Would also be great with roast chicken or enjoyed with creamy and salty cheeses. A great summer sipping wine during the warm weather. We don't make much of this special bottling , so get it while its here.
